About IPinfo

IPinfo is a leading provider of IP address data. Our API handles over 40 billion requests a month, and we also license our data for use in many products and services you might have used. We started as a side project back in 2013, offering a free geolocation API, and we've since bootstrapped ourselves to a profitable business with a global team of 17, and grown our data offerings to include geolocation, IP to company, carrier detection, and VPN detection. Our customers include T-Mobile, Nike, DataDog, DemandBase, Clearbit, and many more.

How we work

We have a small and ambitious team, spread all over the globe. We sync up on a monthly all-hands Zoom call, and most teams do a call together every 2 weeks. Everything else happens asynchronously, via Slack, GitHub, Linear, and Notion. That means you can pick the hours that work best for you, to allow you to be at your most productive.

To thrive in this environment you'll need to have high levels of autonomy and ownership. You have to be resourceful and able to work effectively in a remote setup.

The role

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that the underlying infrastructure is running smoothly and that systems and tools are working as expected.

It is expected that you are a hands-on, pragmatic individual who can reason and influence the direction of IPinfo Infrastructure. It is expected that your experience and intuition balances risk and benefit when designing and implementing solutions and factors in security risks too.

The role includes system design, platform management, capacity planning, hands-on programming on tooling and some backend systems, metrics analysis and planning of improvements for overall site reliability in order to meet Service Level Objectives, identification and implementation of automation that both reduce human time and human errors.

What you'll need

  • 2+ years working with Kubernetes (we run on GKE) and Docker
  • 3+ years working with Linux as sysadmin or similar
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining Observability solutions (Monitoring and Alerting) – we run an heterogeneous fleet of 100s of servers around the world.
  • Critical thinking and ability to respond to incidents and outages, helping teams with troubleshooting, identification and remediation of root causes, deployment of timely mitigation measures, and involving all required parties as/when needed.
  • Practice of DevOps methodologies, making configuration easy and accessible to backend developers, empowering developers and helping them set up, maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Knowledge of a few Infrastructure as Code technology such as Terraform, Ansible, etc.
  • Hands-on experience in Backend development (using NodeJS, Python, Go) together with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and caching solutions (e.g. Redis, memcached).
  • Familiarity with GCP (managed services) offerings is beneficial.

What we offer

  • 100% remote team and work environment (Apply from anywhere!)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Minimal meetings
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Interesting and challenging work

The hiring process

Our hiring process consists of an introductory call, followed by an additional interview. After these 2 calls, we have a trial exercise where you'll work on a real problem. If this all goes well, we're ready to bring you onboard full-time.
